About Thattekad Bird Sanctuary

As a birding enthusiast, you need to travel at least once to Thattekad. This birding paradise in Kerala is home to hundreds of bird species, including local and migratory avian life forms. Some of the species that you will get to spot in these verdant surroundings include Drongo Cuckoo, Yellow-browed Bulbuls, Blue Kingfisher, Indian Cuckoo, Ceylon Frogmouth, White Breasted Woodpecker, Emerald Dove, Jungle Myna, and Malabar Parakeet, among many others. The lush green surroundings are also home to a wide variety of wildlife and reptiles. You may even spot a leopard, elephant or sloth bear on a trip here. The beauty of Thattekad was even made famous by India’s most eminent ornithologist, Dr Salim Ali. The deep deciduous forests and lush grasslands will truly mesmerise. Arrival at Kochi – Transfer to Thattekad – Birding Session
Tour participants will arrive at Cochin International Airport from where they will be taken to Thattekad. The drive to Thattekad is delightful and you can enjoy beautiful sights of the forests and grasslands. Upon arrival at Thattekad, we will check into the lodge and freshen up. We will then head on the first birding session of the day under the guidance of experts. Birding on day 1 is aimed at spotting a range of indigenous species like parakeets and hornbills as well as owls. Meals will be served at lodge timings and guests stay overnight.  Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Birding Sessions
Day 2 will see us set out in search of more local species of birds in Thattekad. Apart from our feathered friends, we will also spot many mammals that call these lush surroundings home. If we get lucky, we may even spot the magnificent Malabar Giant Squirrel so keep your cameras ready. All meals will be served as per the timings of the lodge and guests will stay the night.  Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Drive to Munnar – Birding at Eravikulam National Park
Day 3 will see the group set out on a scenic drive to Munnar. After the wonderful drive across magnificent landscapes, we will go birding at Eravikulam National Park. We will keep an eye out for species such as Painted Bush Quail and Nilgiri Thrush.  In the evening, we will return to the lodge and retire for the night after a delicious dinner.  Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Early Morning Birding – Check out from Lodge – Return Journey
On the final day of the tour, we will go for one last birding session in the surrounding grounds before packing up. Guests will then check out from the lodge and proceed on the return journey. We will provide transport to Cochin International Airport to all tour participants. Guests can proceed to their respective flights.  Meals: Breakfast The trip concludes with wonderful memories and we hope that you will join us again on another adventure.
