About Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary & Snow Leopard

Snow Leopard (Scientific name: Panthera uncia) is the king of Snow capped Mountains in the Himalayas. It is listed as endangered by IUCN. It is one of the most solitary, elusive, rare, and endangered predators in the world and few resorts say that only a few hundred are left in wild. This spirit of mountains has adapted itself to survive in the harsh climate of the Himalayas and hence casual sightings are extremely rare.

Snow leopards in heavy snowfall tend to move downwards where they can prey on local animals and hence chances of sighting one becomes more in the month of Jan to April. Later in summer, you will find them at the highest peaks in the snow, and hence tracking becomes difficult.

We at Nature Explorers India will be exploring Snow Leopard territory with the local experts who help in tracking down the snow leopards for various video documentaries that we see on Television and the internet.

Nature Explorers India welcomes you to the most challenging and unique wildlife expedition in the world – The great snow leopard expedition. After conducting a successful expedition in February 2019 at Hemis National Park, Leh. We are proud to announce the 2020 Snow Leopard Expedition at Serene Spiti Valley, a potential destination to sight and photograph this rare big cat. Winter is a great time to sight snow leopards for they migrate down to the lower altitudes chasing their prey and gives us ample opportunities to track one. Kindly make a note that it is a limited edition expedition and hence available on a first come first served basis.

Chandigarh To Rampur Travel
Spiti is located at an elevation of 11400 feet. Therefore after coming from the lowlands, you must gradually acclimate without exerting yourself. It is recommended that you stay for at least two and a half days because you will be traveling to a higher altitude and trekking quite a bit. Meet with the Snow Leopard Conservancy representatives to receive a history of snow leopard protection in Spiti. We constantly learn more about the threats that snow leopards face and the methods used to counter them. Find out more about Spiti, a fascinating maze of narrow alleyways and charming bazaars. Visitors are welcome to experience the distinctive culture of Spiti, which is particularly Tibetan and is obvious wherever you look, thanks to the national attire, "stove-pipe" caps, and felt boots with turned-up toes. Pick up from Chandigarh to Rampur. Stay in Nau Nabh heritage hotel. Meals: Dinner

Introduction to Spiti
Early morning Check out and drive down to Kaza by 6.00 AM. The 8 hour drive, take you through an amazing landscape of the Himalayan Mountain range. En route we shall stop for smaller breaks for meals. On arrival at Kaza, check-in homestay and Night stay. Kaza is a major town in Spiti. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch,Dinner

Early morning checkout, Breakfast. Post Breakfast spend some time in nearby mountains in search of Himalayan wildlife, continue drive to Kibber. Kibber is just an hour away driving distance and best for acclimatization to higher altitudes. Our Stay in Kibber will be in basic homestay which will be serving traditionally cooked meals. On arrival at homestay, we shall have a small orientation session and how the next few days would look like and in general information on Snow Leopard tracking. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch,Dinner

Getting Ready for The snow leopard expedition.
The next Five days are dedicated to trekking around fields of Kibber, Spiti Valley in Quest of snow leopard. Besides, Snow Leopard you can also spot Blue sheep, Argali, various migratory birds and also Tibetan Wolf. Snow Leopards are usually easy to sight in winters compared to other months, as they descend to lower elevations. Be alert, as it is difficult to spot them. We will be scanning all part of the cliffs and below the rocks where they normally rest, it is a tough task to spot them and this is where the experience of our seasoned spotters comes in to the picture. Stay alert and enjoy the view of the wildlife Later, after returning to the camp, hot tea will be served with some great experience of the day to share and cherish.
