Umred Wildlife Sanctuary

Umred Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary, also dubbed as UKWLS by frequent visitors, is another epic location for local and international tourists in India. As a relatively less eco-sensitive forest along with its connectivity to other tiger reserves like Tadoba, Pench, Bor and Nagzira, this sanctuary can prove to be a marvellous stop for nature and wildlife enthusiasts. Roughly bounded by the Wainganga river and Gose Khurd dam, Umred Karhandla offers spectacular views, exciting encounters, happy mornings and fulfilling evenings.

Speaking of exciting encounters, we can’t miss out on highlighting that Umred Karhandla is the homeland of the esteemed tiger Jai – named after Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic character from the super hot movie Sholay – and his mate Chandi. The pair tempts countless lovers to flock to the forest every year and revel in the daunting ruling pair. Sadly, Jai has been missing for a few years now and experts believe the country’s favourite tiger is no more but that must not deter from visiting Umred Karhandla because Jai’s cubs along with much more surprising wildlife awaits you at the famous sanctuary.
