About Blue-eared Kingfisher Photography Tour

The Indian Subcontinent is home to 12 species of kingfisher. Among these 12 gems, the Blue-eared Kingfisher, scientifically known as Alcedo meninting, is a stunning bird species found in Southeast Asia. Its vibrant plumage features shades of electric blue, turquoise, and chestnut, making it a true gem of the avian world. This small-sized kingfisher is known for its agile and swift flight as it darts across the water in search of fish and aquatic invertebrates, its primary diet. The Blue-eared Kingfisher is typically found near streams, rivers, and mangrove forests, where it builds its nests in tunnels dug into muddy banks. With its striking appearance and graceful behavior, encountering the Blue-eared Kingfisher is a true delight for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. 

Unlike it cousin Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher, the blue-eared purely feeds on a fish diet. Our photography campsite is located in the foothills of the Western Ghats near Abloli village, Guhagar in the Northern Range of the Konkan belt. Our on-field experts will ensure that you have ample opportunities to capture the beauty of BEKF with your cameras during the 2 photography sessions specially dedicated to it. Accommodation is provided in a cozy hotel located close to the birding site, equipped with good basic amenities such as clean washrooms, charging points, and comfortable bedding. During this tour, we will be serving simple Konkani-style vegetarian food cooked with love by locals. So, make sure you don’t miss any opportunity to make the most of this tour.
